Yesterday I went on a website called kshowonline and I thought it was innocent enough since I've heard people saying they've been on it before. I clicked on the show I wanted to watch and it made me download a FlashPlayer, but the show wouldn't play, so I gave up on the website. Right after closing my window, a program called MegaBackup showed up and so did MacKeeper. I didn't know if they were legit since I thought the website downloaded them for me so I deleted them (I also deleted the FlashPlayer from before).
Since then, I've been getting mass pop-ups and ads and 'coupons' on every website I've been too. I even went into my chrome settings and blocked cookies, but it's still spazzing out. My only guess is that I have a virus. Do you know what I should do? Click and follow the instructions, or if you'd rather not remove the adware manually, run.
MalwareBytes simplifies the process of removing adware but doesn't stop it or other malware from getting onto the computer. It shouldn’t be relied on to prevent future incidents; instead, avoid downloading software from sources other than the Mac App Store or the developer websites. This is how the adware got onto the computer; if you see a prompt to download Flash, close and ignore it, and then go to get.adobe.com, helpx.adobe.com, or the Flash Player pane of System Preferences. A Never use any kind of 'anti-virus' or 'anti-malware' software on a Mac.
That's how you cause problems, not how you solve them. B 'MegaBackup' is either an untrustworthy cloud-storage application or perhaps actual malware. I haven't tried to make that distinction.
To remove it, please start by backing up all data (not with MegaBackup itself, of course.) Then take the steps below. Select the Login Items tab in the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences.
